Museum Governance

Legal Structure

The Natural Sciences Museum operates as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), dedicated to serving the public benefit. As a CIO, the Museum combines the flexibility of a modern corporate structure with the accountability of a registered charity, ensuring its activities align with its charitable purpose. This framework enables the Museum to advance education, foster research, and preserve its collections for the benefit of society while maintaining robust governance and transparency.

The Board of Trustees of the Natural Sciences Museum hold ultimate responsibility for ensuring the Museum fulfils its mission to inspire curiosity, protect the planet, and advance scientific knowledge. They oversee the strategic direction, governance, and financial sustainability of the Museum, ensuring that it operates ethically, transparently, and in the public interest.
