The Public Fossil Preparation Lab at the Natural Sciences Museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to take part in the fascinating process of fossil preparation. Fossil preparation involves carefully extracting fossils from rocks, using specialised tools such as air scribes to remove the surrounding rock and sediment without damaging the specimen.
THE LAB EXPERIENCE is a perfect beginner-friendly introduction to fossil prep that lasts two-hours. You are given a fossil to prepare in the lab and at the end get to take it home.
FURTHER TRAINING COURSES are available for those who wish to develop their fossil preparation skills at an intermediate or advanced level. These are expert taught classes conducted in the private labs.
LAB ASSISTANCE - an opportunity for individuals with relevant experience and prior training in fossil preparation. This volunteering role is suited to those looking to apply their skills within a professional museum laboratory.

Give the gift of science with a Laboratory Gift Card. Perfect for those wishing to gift a Lab Experience or Training Course session.
